THE 77TH MANCHESTER ROAD RACE 2013
A sunny day, November 28th 2013. The 30 degree (F) temperature and 16-25 mile per hour gusty wind, did not deter the 15,000 registered runners and walkers from gathering into their designated corrals for the start of another Manchester Road Race. Whether there to win, place, PR, as a tradition, or just to have fun, the cold windy weather did not dampen the spirit or excitement of the runners and walkers, nor the hundreds of spectators and volunteers.
The Thanksgiving Day Manchester Road Race is a real family affair - from it's legendary costume competition, to the bands playing along the side of the roads, to men, women and children of all ages and races, coming together to run, walk, cheer, and enjoy Thanksgiving in the spirit in which it is meant to be celebrated. It is such an atmosphere that makes The Manchester Road Race one of the best Road Races in the country. Runners and walkers from far and wide come to be apart of this fun and historic race!
It is in that spirit that I would like to congratulate this year's winner, Sam Chelenga and female winner, Alice Kamunya, all the Division winners...many local runners, and every runner and walker who completed the 4.748 mile course with it's 'famous' hill! I would also like to thank the Road Race committee, volunteers and spectators for making The Manchester Road Race the wonderful event that it is today - 15,000 participants really says it all! A big thank you to Honorary Chairperson Amby Burfoot, his 51st consecutive race and nine time winner of The Manchester Road Race. To learn more about the race, it's history, the committee members, runners and Honorary Chairperson Amby Burfoot, visit The Manchester Road Race website below:
See you next year! And don't leave it too late to train - the hill!!!
